What is the Fueling Edge?

The Fueling Edge is a performance meal service based in Cary, NC, providing healthy and delicious custom-portioned meals, protein bites, portable breakfasts, family meals and more.

Created by sports nutritionists, athletes and chefs, we're committed to bringing you gluten-free, hand-selected ingredients that benefit health and performance. We focus on high quality proteins, gluten free whole grains, healthy fats and colorful fruits and vegetables.

What is The Fueling Edge's mission?

Our mission is to nourish athletes with healthy and delicious fuel perfectly portioned to their unique needs. 

How Do I Get Started with Custom-Portioned or Custom-Marco Meals?

Fill out our free customization form in order for us to customize your total macronutrient needs and portions. PLEASE ALLOW AT LEAST 1 BUSINESS DAY for our Sarah & Chris (our Registered Dietitians and Sports Nutritionists) to professionally review your answers and create your custom meal formula. You'll be notified via email with your meal macro needs and instructions for ordering. 

If you would like a more in-depth nutrition consultation, book your free nutrition consult with our dietitians. You may want to also have your metabolic testing and body composition completed to give us even more information about your meal needs.

What do you mean by "custom portioned" or "custom macro" meals?

Everyone's calorie and macronutrient (aka protein, carbohydrates, and fat) needs are slightly different. So we formulated a way to adjust your portions based on our recommendations for your energy needs. 

For example, Joe may be training 3+ hours per day, wants to maintain his weight, and improve his performance, he may need 900 calories per meal, with 50+grams of protein, and a generous portion of carbohydrates from vegetables and grains. 

Similarly, Sally may be generally sedentary and want to lose weight, so she may only need 400 calories per meal and fewer carbohydrates. 

If I know my macro needs, will you portion my meals based on that?

Yes! Just fill out the form and tell us what you need. 

Do I have to get custom-portioned meals?

Nope! Our "standard" meal contain your choice and amount of protein with ~30g of carbs from 3 servings of vegetables and 1 serving of starch and ~20g of fat.

How many calories and macros do your meals have?

The nutrition facts are listed on the webpage for each item that cannot be customized, including our protein bites, shakes and portable breakfasts.

If you fill out our free form, we'll determine your calories, carbohydrates, protein and fat needs, then custom portion your meals based on that. 

Can I use your meals to lose or gain weight?

Sure! Fill our our free form, then our dietitians will determine how many calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat your meals need. Then we portion your meals to match that!  

Do your meals benefit performance?

Yes! We specifically create meals, snacks, shakes and bites to optimize health and performance. Our sports nutritionists created this service to do just that!

Are your meals heart healthy?

Yes, our meals loosely follow the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) since they contain lean proteins, tons of vegetables (from brassicas, leafy greens, red and orange foods, etc), and whole grains (like organic brown rice and organic quinoa).  

I have diabetes/insulin resistance, are your meals carb controlled?

Yes, we base all our carbs portions on the carb exchange system. Please fill out our form and tell us how many carbs you need per meal and we can accommodate you! 

Is The Fueling Edge a diet?  

No. We use evidence-based research to choose the healthiest ingredients and create them into delicious meals and snacks. We use real, nutritious food that fits your protein, carbohydrate and calorie requirements to fuel your edge!

Do I have to be an athlete to eat your meals?

Nope! Anyone who cares about health, longevity, and weight management can enjoy our meals.

Are Your Meals Gluten Free?

Yes, all of our meals, snacks and shakes are free of gluten. However, our meals are not prepared in an allergen-free facility. 

Do you have ketogenic options?

Not specifically, no. 

Do You Have Vegetarian Options Available?

Yes, we do! Our signature lentil meatballs (contains egg) or tempeh can be substituted for the main protein in any meal. When ordering, select lentil meatballs or tempeh from the drop down menu. 

We also have vegan and vegetarians options for portable breakfasts and protein bites.

What If I Have An Allergy?

Our Dietitians have worked diligently to list all allergens are on each individual food item webpage (and on the label). If you have a true allergy it is your responsibility not to order food items/meals that contain your allergen.

You can search be "tag" including nut free, dairy free, egg free, etc.

If you are getting custom-portioned meals, we ask whether you have a true food allergy, intolerance, sensitivity or preference. We do our best to accommodate allergies however, we do operate out of a shared kitchen space and therefore, cannot guarantee that all allergy needs will be met.  

Where Do You Source Your Food?

We pay special attention to what we put in our meals and what we don't!

We hand-select our ingredients every week. When we can, we purchase organic foods when possible. All of our food is free of artificial dyes, colors or flavors, gluten, high fructose corn syrup, trans fat and soybean oils. Our salmon is always wild Alaskan and never farm raised. We choose lean proteins, and we even go the extra step to trim off any additional fat. 

We also work with local purveyors, including Larry's Coffee and Videri's Chocolate. 

How Do I Order?

To place your order, go to thefuelingedge.com, add your selected food to the cart, and checkout by 11:59pm on Thursday nights.  

When Do I Pick Up My Meals?

Meal pick up is on Monday between 4-7pm and Tuesdays 9am-12pm. 

Where Do I Pick Up My Meals?

At our office in Cary at The Endurance Edge, located at 1040 Darrington Drive, Suite 104, Cary, NC 27513.

What Happens To My Meals If I Do Not Pick Them Up?

Unfortunately, we are required to discard your meals if you do not pick them up. If an emergency comes up and you cannot pick up your meals please contact us.

Do you deliver?

We do, within a 15 mile radius of our office. We'll drop off your meals on your doorstep or office in a cooler with ice packs or frozen water bottles on Tuesdays between 9-12pm.

What is your delivery rate?

We have a very affordable $4.95 flat rate fee within a 15 mile radius of our office.

How Much Are Your Meals?

Our meals are priced by the amount of protein in your meals. Our pricing is as follows:

  • 3-4 oz of protein= $12
  • 5-6 oz of protein= $14
  • 7-8 oz of protein= $16
  • 9+ oz of protein= $18

Premium meals with high quality proteins (such as wild Alaskan salmon) have an additional charge of $2 and range from $14-20. There is no additional charge for servings of vegetables or starches. 

Other items, including our family meals, bites, shakes and breakfasts range from $4+.

Are Your Meals Refundable?

All orders are non-refundable. If there is a problem with your order and/or your meals please contact us at fuel@TheEnduranceEdge.com.  

Do you have a rewards program?

Yes! Earn points by creating your account, making a purchase, having a birthday, liking us on social media and referring friends. Use your points towards money off your future purchases.

Are your meals frozen?

No, all meals are prepared fresh by us. 

How Long Do Your Meals Stay Fresh?

We prefer you consume your meals fresh within 5-7 days from the date of preparation, which is printed on the label. Some meals are best consumed first, including fish and salads. 

Can your meals be frozen?

Certain meals can be frozen. They will be indicated with a snowflake symbol on their webpage. Most bulk proteins can be frozen too. We recommend consuming within 3 months of freezing. 

How Do I Reheat My Meals?

Our individual meals are packaged in microwave safe, dishwasher safe, BPA free and freezer safe containers that can be recycled. While you can reheat in the container, we recommend transferring the food to another container for microwaving or reheating on the stove top or in the oven. Times to reheat depend on the method of cooking and meal ingredients. Meals should be reheated to at least 165 degrees.  

What Should I Do With My Meal Containers?

Our meal containers are recyclable and reusable. Our cereal containers are also compostable. Please recycle!

Who prepares your food?

We do. We don't contract with any other company.   

Who develops your meals?

We do. Chef Jay, Chris and Sarah all work together to choose the healthiest ingredients that work for various meals, bites and more in order to give you the most delicious fuel possible!
